Carowinds ride will give sensation of flying 30 stories in the air
A new ride at Carowinds will give visitors an experience as close to flying as they can get without boarding passes or full body security scans.

The theme park announced its newest attraction last week, as WindSeeker, a 301-foot-tall swing ride that will spin riders high above the Carolinas, is slated to open at the park next spring. Construction will begin this fall.

The $6.5 million addition will be the tallest attraction in the park’s history, officials said.

“In 1903, Kitty Hawk became symbolic with the Carolinas as the site of the Wright brothers’ first flight,” said John Taylor, Carowinds’ director of marketing. “Carowinds will proudly follow a similar path with a new flying machine of its own in which riders will experience a true sensation of flying and weightlessness.”

WindSeeker’s three minute ride begins when the ride’s carriage, featuring 32 two-passenger swings, slowly rotates while climbing to the top of the 301-foot tower. The swings will reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour and the ride’s arms will extend outward at a 45-degree angle.

The ride is the latest addition to the park,Red bull hats, which has already invested more than $45 million in rides and attractions in the park since Ohio-based Cedar Fair purchased Carowinds in 2006, according to park officials. The park introduced the Intimidator, the tallest, fastest and longest coaster in the Southeast, in 2010.

WindSeeker will enhance Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular, an evening light show added this past spring, with its elaborate LED lighting package. Aside from the LED lights that will be located at the top and bottom of the tower, the carriage of the ride will be equipped with LED light strands that will run out from the tower and down each of the ride’s steel arms.

At night, as the ride ascends to the top of the tower, the light display will come to life with a kaleidoscope of colorful patterns and shapes. The ride will also be equipped with speakers and its on-ride audio will play up to 18 different music tracks.
