Sydney Harbour Bridge climber fails to turn up in court due to a bad back in Philippines

A MAN who scaled the Sydney Harbour Bridge and brought morning traffic to a standstill has failed to turn up to a court hearing in Sydney because he’s in the Philippines.

Michael Fox, a former soldier, was meant to attend a two-day hearing at Downing Centre Local Court starting today.

He has pleaded not guilty to obstructing traffic, climbing or jumping from buildings or other structures, and climbing on bridges.

The court heard the 38-year-old father of three hadn’t returned to Australia following an overseas holiday.

“The defendant flew out to the Philippines, he booked a return flight yesterday at about 7(am) to be ready for the case here today,” Magistrate Daryl Pearce told the court.

“Many witnesses are inconvenienced by an adjournment.”

The magistrate said Mr Fox had hurt his back and was unable to be moved.

“According to a Doctor Tan from the Philippines the defendant has some issue in relation to back pain… severe back stiffness,” he told the court.

“He’s not fit to travel so therefore is unable to return.”

Mr Fox caused traffic chaos when he climbed the bridge with a banner reading “pls help my kids” in May this year.

Clothing Drive, Fundraiser Saturday to Support Westfield Education Fund
Westfield residents should start cleaning out their closets and get ready to donate gently used clothing, shoes, bedding and toys. On Saturday, Oct. 15, the Education Fund of Westfield is accepting clothes and money in its third annual clothing drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Funds raised from the collection will be used to support teacher grants that encourage innovative programs within the Westfield School District.
The donation drop-off will be at Roosevelt Intermediate School, 301 Clark Street, Westfield. All clothing, accessories, shoes, bedding, linens, stuffed animals and small toys will be accepted. Donors are required to put their items in plastic garbage bags, with shoes separate from the other items.
Amy Seid, the co-president of the City Education Fund, said they are anticipating a great deal of clothes to be donated and a lot of money to be raised. The goal is to collect 6,000 pounds of clothes. The drive collected $900 its first year and $600 last year, but Seid said they hope to top that.

My Footballing Products
